Whiskey Flip: The Perfect Holiday Cocktail Recipe

Whiskey Flip: The Perfect Holiday Cocktail Recipe

The flip is a versatile cocktail. The base spirit can vary greatly, but the creamy goodness still stands out, making it a great cocktail for the holiday.

Our personal favorite base? Whiskey. But feel free to sub it for dark rum, add sherry, do whatever your heart leads you to do. We get it.

Shake this cocktail up for yourself, friends, and family this holiday. It'll be sure to be a hit.

This recipe is a simple, three-ingredient classic. Easy to make, easier to drink.

Whiskey Flip Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Bourbon or Rye whiskey
  • 0.75 oz Simple syrup (1:1 ratio of sugar and water)
  • 1 Whole large egg

Garnish:
Freshly grated nutmeg

Method:

  1. Dry Shake: Add the whiskey, simple syrup, and whole egg to a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously without ice for at least 15-30 seconds. This step is crucial for emulsifying the egg and creating a frothy texture.
  2. Wet Shake: Fill the shaker with ice and shake again until the mixture is well-chilled, about 30 seconds.
  3. Strain: Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish: Grate fresh nutmeg over the foam before serving.

Optional Riffs

  • Optional Cream: For a richer, creamier texture, you can add about 0.5-1 oz of heavy cream.
  • Sweetener Alternatives: You can substitute simple syrup with other sweeteners like maple syrup, demerera syrup, or a spiced simple syrup to add different flavors.
  • Garnish: While nutmeg is traditional, a dash of cinnamon or a few drops of bitters also make excellent garnishes.
